YARDLEY. 1. Parishes, &c., in cos. Hertford, Worcester, and Northampton. 2. An ancient family of the name were lords of Yardley, co. Stafford. There is an old joke of a Cockney's having broken his jawbone in an unsuccessful attempt to pronounce this name.
