Patronymica Britannica (1860)

TRESS. TRESSE. "The name of Tress, or Tresse, is supposed to be the same as that of Tracey, and to have been altered by vulgar corruption and the succession of time; if so, the family of Tresse, so long settled at West Mailing and Offham, might very probably be a branch of the family of Tracie, jiossessors of the manor which still bears their name at Newington, near Sittiugbourne, in the reign of Henry III." Hasted's Kent, 8vo., vol. iv., p. 535.
