TIPPING. The family of Tipping, anciently Typpynge, derived their surname from a vill or hamlet in the township of Clay ton-le- Dale, co. Lancaster. The mansion called Tipping Hall was their seat temp. Edward III., and probably much earlier. B.L.G.
