An Etymological Dictionary of Family and Christian Names (1857)

(origin: Local) Tabur or Tobar, Gaelic, a spring-well, water, a river. Tabor, a city in Bohemia, which the Hussites fortified and made the seat of their war for twenty years; on this account they were called Taborites. The family may probably derive their name from this city.
