Patronymica Britannica (1860)

STONESTREET. I know of no locality so called ; but, as the name has been spelt Stanistreet, may it not be derived from the celebrated Roman road thus designated, which ran from Regnum (Chichester) to London ? This seems the more probable as the Stonestreets appear to have originated in the county of Sussex, at no great distance from that i"oad. Analogous origins for family names from Roman works, may be found under Dykes, Thirl wall, and Watling. De Stonstret. H.R. co. Kent.
