SAXON. This name does not denote an Anglo-Saxon, in contradistinction to a Norman origin : it was probably given to a settler from Saxony in more recent times. Or, it may possibly be a coiTuption of sexton, which is so pronounced in the West of England, or of Saxton, a local name.
