Patronymica Britannica (1860)

RIGMAIDEN. Two gentry families, settled respectively in cos. Lincoln and Lancaster, bore this remarkable name, which at the commencement of the present century was still extant. I can give no better etymology for the name than that I have already assigned in Eng. Surn. ; viz., " a romping girl." For the curious seal of George Biiqmcajdcn, with a rebus, see Gent. Mag. 183.3," 1. 305.
