Patronymica Britannica (1860)

PORT. Hugo de Port came into England at the Norman Conquest, and held fifty-five lordships in llie counties of Hants and Dorset, as tenant in capite. One of his descendants assumed the surname of SaintJohn. A Hubert de Port was also a tenant in capite in Hampshire, at the making of Domesday Book. Kelham's Domesday.
