MONCKTON. This family are of great antiquity in co. York, and derive tlieir descent from Simon Monckton of Sloncktou, near Boroughbridge, which lordship his posterity enjoyed until it was made a nunnery in the year 1326, and called NuuMonckton. Courthope's Debrett.
