MIDDLEMISS. A corruption of Micliaelmas, which is so pronounced in some dialects. Other corrupted forms of the word, employed as surnames, are Middlemist and Middlemast. Pi-obabl)' from the person having been born at that festival. So Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, &c.
