MAHON. Descended according to tradition from the Mac Mahons, the ancient Irinces of Munstcr. At the first arrival of the English in Ireland, in the reign of Henry II., they had large possessions in that province, over which they ruled as hereditary chieftains. Courthope's Debrett. Mahon in Irish signifies a bear.
