An Etymological Dictionary of Family and Christian Names (1857)

(origin: Welsh.) The same as Madoc, a proper name common among the Welsh, from mad, good, and the termination oc or og, the same as the termination y or ous in English. The terminations c and ac, denote fixedness, force, plenitude. Og, in its simple form, signifies animation, activity; also, possessing that which precedes it; oc, greatness, grandeur; ox, quickness, promptitude.
