LISLE. " Of this surname were several families, springing originally fi-om two, which had derived the designation, one from the Isle of Ely, the other from the Isle of Wight." Eurke's Ext. Peerage. Eighteen dilTerent coats of arms are ascribed to this name by Berry. The principal forms of it are Lisle, L'Isle, Lyle, Lylle, Lyell. In charters it was latinized De Insula.
