LADE. See Lathe. In Norfolk it means also a watercourse or drain. The old family of this name in Kent and Sussex, though retaining the true orthography, pronounce it corruptly Ladds. In 0. English and Scotch, a lade means a canal or duct for water. The forms in H.R. are De Lade and De la Lade.
