Patronymica Britannica (1860)

KNELLER. Sir Godfrey K. was a native of Lubeck ; but ihQ name is also indigenous to England. Knelle is a topographical word of uncertain import, and a person residhig at such a spot would be called At-Knelle or Kneller. The name was formerly very common in E. Sussex, and may have been derived from Great Knell, in the parish of Beckley. See Thorpe's Catalogue of Battel xVbbey Charters.
