KEATE. KEATS. An old Cornish family bore the former name, as also did the extinct baronets of the Hoo in Hertfordshire. Hals, the Cornish topographer, gives this veiy uncomplimentarj derivation of the name: '•'■ Keate, ceate, in British is fallacy, cheat, or delusion."
