Patronymica Britannica (1860)

ESAU. The personal name. It is strange that the maxim, " Bonum nomen bonum omen," could ever have been so disregarded as in the imposition of this designation as a family name. Stranger still is it that any parent in modern times should give it at the font ! Yet I have known an Esau, as well as an Ananias and an Absolom.
