EGLINTON. The castle and lands of Eglintou are in Ayrshire. They gave name as early as the time of "William the Lion, to a distinguished family. This family ended in an heiress in the XlV. century, and she married Sir John Montgomery, a lineal ancestor of the present Earl of Egliuton.
