" Eualo de Abriiicis, or Averenches, a valiant and skilful soldier, marrying Maud, daughter and heir of Nigel de Mandevil, lord of Folkestone, had all her lands and honours given to him iu marriage by King Henry I." Banks. The town of Avranches is the capital of an arrondissement in the department of La Manche, in Lower Normandy.
