Patronymica Britannica (1860)

D'ARCY. DARCEY. Under William the Conqueror, Norman de Adreci, or Areci, was a tenant in chief in Lincolnshire, which was the principal seat of the family during many generations, whence the earl of Holderness. Collins' Peerage. The name was gradually corrupted to its present form. The name Audresset, apparently the same, still exists in the Norman town of Louviers.
