BATTEN. The family of B. of Somereet have been seated there for nearly six centuries. They are considered of Flemish origin. Among eminent merchants of the staple (wool-trade) temp. Edw. I., were several De Betej-ns and Batyns. B. L. G. 2. An estate in the parish of North Hill, CO. Cornwall, " from which place was denominated an old family of gentlemen surnamed Battin." Hals, in D.
